SKYMED Members Speak

David Claeys

St. Croix USVI

“I can’t thank the Skymed team enough for their service. My family of seven has had three major health problems in just one year. SkyMed has stood with us during this difficult time. They have done everything they promised and more. You are NOT just another client with this company, they actually care for you and your family. We can’t thank Jim and his SkyMed team enough for the exceptional care that they provided.”

John and Dolores Jowers

St. Thomas USVI

“Delores and I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all persons connected with SkyMed in whatever capacity for their professionalism, kindness and caring. The Air Vac from St Thomas, USVI to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on December 17, 2011 after Dolores’ bad fall was perfect. Thank goodness we secured SkyMed as our air ambulance. Special thanks to: Linda Bruton, Jim Edwards (staff), and Rick Moore, Alan Horton, Scott Casparly, Bill and Pat Lozo, (aircrew). Please forgive us if we left out someone. It is great that we are still here.”

Officer Fernando Irizarry

St. Croix USVI

Officer Fernando Irizarry, of St. Croix, USVI, was shot in the calf, and was rushed to the local hospital for immediate surgery. When complications arose further medical care was sought in Puerto Rico for Officer Irizarry. The surgery he needed was not available in Puerto Rico, and instead Officer Irizarry was flown to Jackson Memorial, in Miami, FL.

Ms. Colon said, "Even though we had the basic plan for Puerto Rico, SkyMed did not charge extra to move Fernando to a Florida hospital. Three months and and ten surgeries later SkyMed flew us back first class to St. Croix. During this whole crisis we were treated like royalty with lots of compassion. We highly recommend SkyMed membership"

Silkya Contreras

St. Croix USVI

On January 30, 2010, my step-daughter Silkya, age 14, needed to be airlifted to Puerto Rico. A week prior she had a bad fall from her bicycle and punctured her liver. We were SkyMed members so we immediately called them once we saw the urgency. They understood our need as the puncture was worse than first thought and it now needed immediate critical attention. Her mother accompanied her in the air ambulance.

Her hospital stay at HIMA-San Pablo was 18 days. She had to stay in Puerto Rico close by with relatives for outpatient care and rest. Silkya returned home a month later and went back to school soon after. However, when someone gave her a too-tight hug, it retriggered the injury that was healing. SkyMed flew us commercially back to Puerto Rico for further hospital and outpatient observation.

Being that she is petite and fragile it took a while for her to make progress, but almost four months after the incident we were able to help her celebrate her 15th birthday.

Because of the seriousness of her injury we truly believe that without the quick response and action from SkyMed, Silkya would not be with us today. We were very grateful we had their membership plan. It saved us a lot of out of pocket money at a time we really needed help. We tell a lot of people about their great service. SkyMed was like family to us during this whole ordeal. As we found out it was all about treating the customers fairly, with kindness and compassion. They were there for us. Thank you, SkyMed.

Rhonda Motichek

A USVI Resident

"I was hospitalized in St. Croix with an intestinal blockage from a flare-up of my Crohn's disease. After three days of treatment, my condition continued to deteriorate. The doctors told me the only option left was surgery, and scheduled me for surgery the next day. My husband felt that it would be in my best interest if surgery could be avoided. David placed a call to SkyMed to see if there were any options to avoid surgery. The next day (surgery day), I was removed from the hospital and flown by SkyMed to Miami, FL. I was treated at the hospital for 23 days and because of this, was able to avoid surgery."

"My overall opinion of the SkyMed service is that everything we went through with my illness was handled promptly and professionally. My family and I are espcially grateful that I was able to avoid surgery."

Paul, Audrey & Jr. Williams

Short-Term Travelers

While holidaying at their timeshare in Cancun, Mexico, Paul and Audrey Williams faced the incredible dilemma of any traveling family; their 5-year old son, Paul Jr., was faced with a critical illness, which demanded young Paul's immediate repatriation to their home medical care providers in Maryland. Within a matter hours, SkyMed dispatched a medically-equipped and staffed jet to return the Williams family home.

In a telephone call to SkyMed President Will Klein, Mr. Williams expressed their gratitude and asked for applications to share with family and friends. He said, "When I relate what SkyMed did for us, my friends are stunned that such a service is available. They raise their eyebrows when I tell them SkyMed took us home on a jet. It is almost as though they don't believe it!" Mr. Williams added, "Everybody who travels has to know about SkyMed."

Jane Ann St. Hall

St. Croix, USVI

"I am extremely thankful for all the help and support that I received from SkyMed. My daughter Kelise St. Hall would not be alive today if it had not been for my SkyMed memberhip."

"SkyMed has proven to be a dependable and trustworthy company."

Jokasta Geigel

St. Thomas, USVI

"A pitbull attacked and bit my daughter Caroline. Her left eye was wounded, and my left arm was bitten. I would say if it wasn't for SkyMed my daughter would be blind today."

"I am sure glad I chose SkyMed as my air ambulance plan."
